Job Description

New Canaan CARES is an independent, non-profit community organization whose purpose is to advance the health and well-being of youth and families. CARES provides responsive educational programs that support and strengthen parenting skills, positive youth development, and healthy lifestyles.

New Canaan CARES is seeking an Executive Director with proven success in fundraising and donor development, strategic planning, and program and events management to shape the organization’s strategic direction in the post-pandemic environment. An ideal candidate will be a dynamic community builder, who is comfortable as the public face of the organization, and will have strong office administration and management skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset. This is a full-time position, hired by and directly accountable to the Board of Directors.

New Canaan CARES is a family-oriented organization, whose Board understands the importance of work-life balance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy
Create and update long-range plans to support the CARES mission, in collaboration with the Board, and maintain the capital and staffing needs required for the growth and health of the organization
Development
Lead the planning and execution of the long-running annual New Canaan CARES Home Tour, overseeing a committed volunteer committee, and other organizational fundraising events
Spearhead fundraising efforts for the Annual Appeal, including personally cultivating and soliciting donors and implementing fundraising plans and policies approved by the Board
Build strong relationships with partner organizations, policymakers, media, community and other leaders, and the broader New Canaan community
Research and write grants to supplement fundraising efforts
Represent the organization by participating in key associations and organizations, serving on committees and advisory groups, and speaking in public settings
Management
Oversee functioning of organization, including annual budget development to ensure adequate cash flow for operational needs
Hire, supervise and train employees, consultants, and volunteers
Direct and oversee all marketing, public relations, and communications activities
Programming/Leadership
Work with Program and Education Manager to properly identify speakers that address community requests and support the CARES mission
Work with local partners to determine future community programming needs
Ensure program development aligns with the strategic plan
Define, develop and manage youth leadership program(s)

Candidate Requirements

Minimum of 5-7 years of non-profit or equivalent management experience
Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with database and CRM system management, and audience engagement via social media, website, and newsletter communications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment and set and juggle multiple priorities
Able to delegate and achieve consensus amongst differing opinions and stakeholders
Ability to work evenings and weekends for special programs and events

Salary Information

Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000
