Exhibition Opening: “Text Messages” and “Silent Revelations: The Mezzotints of Cleo Wilkinson”
September 11, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
Join us for the Opening Reception of our two Exhibitions, “Text Messages” and “Silent Revelations: The Mezzotints of Cleo Wilkinson.” This event is free and open to the public.
“Text Messages” features prints by artists who incorporate text and language in their prints as an integral part of the subject matter in their work, though to different ends and for different purposes from artist to artist. Viewers will encounter words and language in shifting presentations: as a bold design feature, a playful juxtaposition of syllables pushing and pulling definitions, full statements or messages, or as a conceptual thought experiment.
Artists included in the exhibition are: Ben Beres, April Bey, Mel Bochner, Robert Cottingham, Lesley Dill, Shepard Fairey, Glenn Ligon, Edie Overturf, and Lucas Samaras.
“Silent Revelations” brings together a selection of 26 prints by Australian mezzotint artist Cleo Wilkinson made over the last 18 years. Evocative of the process of making mezzotints, Wilkinson’s subject matter delicately emerges from the darkest depths of tone on the plate revealing through shadow what appear to be isolated frames of an unknown story. This opportunity to exhibit such a large number of Wilkinson’s prints within the same space provides a unique experience giving her body of work a boundary within which to tell its story, even if it is revealed a page at a time.
