  • : In this age of high tech and mass production, it has been said that fine craftsmanship is a dying art. A group of talented, local women proves that adage wrong. The New Canaan Sewing Group works throughout the year to create wonderful, one-of-a-kind handcrafts. Several times a year these handcrafts are made available for sale to the public with all proceeds benefiting over twenty local non-profit organizations. (See reverse side.) Founded in 1931, a small group of friends began sewing layettes and clothing for families under the care of the Visiting Nurse Association. Today the sewing group creates a wide range of handcrafts, including hand knits for infants and children, embroidery and fine hand sewing, machine sewing, needlepoint and fine crafts. If you enjoy creating handcrafts and would like to learn more about the New Canaan Sewing Group please email us. 2013 Grant Recipients Include: Darien • Center for Hope New Canaan • A Better Chance • Arts for Healing • Get About • Horizons at New Canaan Country School • Meals-on Wheels • New Canaan Cares • New Canaan Historical Society • New Canaan YMCA • Schoolhouse Apartments • South Avenue Cottage • Staying Put • Summer Theater of New Canaan • Waveny LifeCare Network Norwalk • Bob McCauley Free Clinics of Norwalk • Family ReEntry • Norwalk Hospital Foundation • STAR Rubino Family Program Stamford • Domestic Violence Crisis Center • Domus - Future 5 • Laurel House Wilton • Visiting Nurse & Hospice
