Brother-sister duo, Jake (24) and Caroline (21) Danehy, founded Fair Harbor while both were attending Colgate University. Fair Harbor (FH) produces high-quality, sustainable swimwear that positively impacts the environment. Each pair of FH boardshorts and swim trunks are produced from 11 recycled plastic bottles that are sourced from mass recycling facilities around the world. As a geography major, Jake studied the negative impact of plastic waste on our oceans. The Danehys grew up spending summers on Fair Harbor, Fire Island, in turn forming a deep appreciation for the water, waves and bounty of the sea. They vowed to keep the waters clean by way of upcycling ocean plastic into simple, durable, sustainable, and really good looking swimwear. Backed by Colgate alumni, a successful Kickstarter, and the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator, Fair Harbor is the first fully sustainable swimwear company with a mission to protect the places that mean the most to the local community.
