On March 27, 2025, former NBA player and nationally recognized speaker Chris Herren will visit New Canaan Library for the New Canaan CARES Spring Program at 7 PM for a compelling discussion on substance use awareness and prevention. Through his personal story—from the heights of professional basketball to the struggles of addiction and the triumph of recovery—Herren is changing the conversation, shifting the focus from the last day of substance use to the critical first.
This free, must-attend event for parents and community members will explore the risks of early substance use, the power of judgment-free conversations, and strategies to delay that pivotal “First Day.” Attendees will gain valuable insights on fostering open discussions and guiding young people toward healthier choices.
New Canaan High School students (grades 9-12) will have the opportunity to hear Herren’s powerful message during a school-day presentation. In the evening, parents, community members, and students (grades 9 and up) from outside New Canaan Public Schools are invited to attend this impactful session at New Canaan Library.
The event is presented in partnership with New Canaan CARES, Silver Hill Hospital, NC Rams All Sports Booster Club, New Canaan Public Schools, New Canaan Library, and St. Luke’s School.
The event will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2025, at New Canaan Library at 7:00 PM. To register, please visit www.newcanaancares.org.
