Waking Up to the Earth: An Environmentally-Inspired Poetry Reading with CT’s State Poet Laureate

Join the New Canaan Land Trust on Saturday, May 15th for an outdoor, environmentally-inspired poetry reading that will feature Connecticut’s Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson and seven other acclaimed Connecticut poets. Seven poets will read their poems from the recently published anthology Waking Up to the Earth. Edited by State Poet Laureate Gibson, Waking Up to the Earth is a collection of poems by Connecticut poets who write of their relationships with the earth at a time of global climate crisis.

The event will take place at one of the Land Trust preserves. A limited number of tickets will be sold for the event. Tickets which include admission for two people and one copy of Waking Up to the Earth, can be purchased for $30. The event will take place from 11:00am-12:30pm on Saturday, May 15th. (Rain date is May 16th). You can register to attend both in-person and virtually: HERE. (There is no charge to view the live-stream).

The seven poets who will read at New Canaan Land Trust’s Waking up to the Earth event are: State Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson; Christine Beck; Ginny Lowe Connors; Mary Guitar; Gwen Gunn; Pat O’Brien and Lana Orphanides. In addition, Margaret Gibson will read a poem by another contributor (who will not be present) Carol Caput.
