Love is in the air with the Town Players of New Canaan’s production of Outside Mullingar.
Set in the Irish countryside, the Tony Award nominee for Best Play tells the story of the slow-to-develop romance of two farmers, Anthony and Rosemary — quirky souls who just may be right for each other. Standing in the way of their happiness, however, is a land feud between her mother and his father as well as their own clumsiness.
Outside Mullingar’s author, John Patrick Shanley, also wrote Doubt and the screenplay for the film Moonstruck, which won Cher an Oscar for Best Actress.
“The language in this show is especially moving and heartwarming,” says director Tim Cronin. “This is Shanley at his poetic best. He’s fashioned a Irish fable to remind us that it’s never too late to take a chance on love.”
“If you’re a fan of love stories, then you won’t want to miss Outside Mullingar.” says producer Sheila Toner. “You’ll laugh out loud, maybe cry a little, and leave the theater totally satisfied.”
The cast features Collene Torres as Rosemary Muldoon, Patrick Duffy as Anthony Reilly, Louise Kaminer as Aoife Muldoon, and David Victor as Tony Reilly.
The show takes place at the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in New Canaan’s Waveny Park. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday May 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, May 6 and 13 at 2:30 p.m. To order tickets, call 203-594-3636 or visit www.tpnc.org.
