The Big Turtle Year and CT Turtle Atlas: Exercises in Conservation Awareness

April 3, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Turtles don’t always generate the same level of excitement that tigers do when discussing endangerment, but turtles are, in fact, one of the most endangered species. Join Tim Walsh of The Bruce Museum when he presents a talk on the topic on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Currently, turtles are one of the most endangered vertebrate species. Walsh will offer information on the topic, with highlights from the Florida Turtle Conservation Trust’s conservation education initiative, The Big Turtle Year. He will also present an overview of the turtles found in Connecticut and explain how one can become involved with the Bruce Museum citizen science project, The Connecticut Turtle Atlas.

Tim Walsh has focused much of his career on conservation research and awareness of turtles. He has worked in the zoo/public aquarium/museum field for the past 27 years. Tim’s current roles are Collections Manager with the Bruce Museum and Assistant Director of the Florida Turtle Conservation Trust.
