Going Global – Is It The Right Move for Your Company or for Your Career?

If you are aspiring to sell your products and services internationally, or you are wanting to be an international trade advisor, or you are looking for a career at an exporting company after college graduation, the 6-workshop series will help you turn your ambition into action.

Please come and join us every Wednesday from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm on April 3, April 10, April 17, April 24, May 1 and May 8, 2019 at Gateway Community College in New Haven for a series of six export training workshops. They are FREE!

You will meet with the instructors, the government officials and the representatives from SBA, SCORE, SBDC, ExIm, DECD, SBA approved lenders, export credit insurance agents, and attorneys to discuss with you your specific financial needs and technical assistance.

Registration starts at 2:30 pm and networking with the attending speakers.

General description of the 6-workshop series:

1. Workshop Part One-Taking Your Business Global will cover the following topics:

-Why should you export if you have products and services of U.S. brand names?

-How do you export?

-How to tap the global markets?

-Briefing U.S. exports data and what goods Connecticut based companies are exporting?

-What federal government programs and services are available?

-What are the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) export loan programs?

-What is the SBA State Trade and Expansion Program (STEP)?

-What are the Ex-Im Bank’s export loan and export credit insurance programs?

-What are the U.S. Export Assistance Center’s (USEAC) programs and services?

-What are the free counseling services of SCORE, SBDC and WBC?

2. Workshop Part Two-Global Business Management will cover the following topics:

-Effective and efficient Global Business Management.

-Define your company’s mission statement , present status, goals, commitment.

-Assemble facts and define constraints.

-Set specific, measurable goals and objectives.

-SBA online export business plan tool.

-Are your products and services successful domestically?

-Do you have a product or service in demand overseas?

-Do you have sufficient production capacity?

-Do you have the commitment, persistence and resources to support exporting?

3. Workshop Part Three-Global Business Marketing will cover the following topics:

-Global Marketing Management.

-Keep abreast of world events that influence the international marketplace

-Analyze trade and economic statistics

-Screen potential markets and buyers

-Assess targeted markets and buyers

-Obtain advice from marketing experts

-Use Gold Key Service at USEAC

-Identifying, Evaluating, and Selecting Target Markets

-Product Selection and Pricing

-Distribution Methods

-Terms and Conditions

-Internal Organization and Procedures

-Sales Goals: Profit and Loss Forecasts

-Primary Target Countries

-Secondary Target Countries

-Direct and Indirect Marketing Efforts

4. Workshop Part Four-Gloabal Supply Chain Management and Export Compliance and Control will cover the following topics:

-How to distribute goods and services throughout a trans-national companies’ global network to maximize profit and minimize waste?

-Global logistics management, competitor orientation, customer orientation, supply-chain coordination, supply management, and operations management.

-Global supply-side risk and demand side risk management.

-Incoterms 2010 by International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

– Rules for any mode of transport: EXW,FCA,CPT,DAT,DAP and DDP.

-Rules for sea and inland waterway transport: FAS,FOB,CFR and CIF.

-Reasons for export compliance and control.

-National Security (NS)

-Missile Technology (MT)

-Nuclear Nonproliferation (NP)

-Chemical and Biological Weapons (CB)

-Anti-Terrorism (AT), Crime Control (CC), Regional Stability (RS), Short Supply (SS)

-UN Sanctions, such as Firearms Convention (FC)

-Do you need an export license?

-What are you exporting?

-Where are you exporting?

-Who will receive your item?

-What will your export items be used for?

-Knowing whether the item you intend to export has a specific Export Control Classification Number (ECCN).

-Export compliance checklists at the federal agencies.

5. Workshop Part Five-Trade Finance and Export Credit Insurance Policy will cover the following topics:

-Understand trade finance and export credit insurance programs.

-Finance your company’s transactions.

-How to manage your foreign accounts receivables?

-Methods of Payment: Cash-In-Advance, Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, Open Account and Consginment.

-Manage or mitigate risks related to foreign payments.

-Export Credit Insurance Policies.

-Federal and State export grant programs.

-SBA, ExIm, OPIC and USDA Trade Finance Programs.

-State Trade and Expansion Program (STEP)

-U.S. Branded Program

6. Workshop Part Six-Tariff and Non-Tariff Barriers and Intellectual Property Rights Protection Overseas will cover the following topics:

-Tariff and Non-Tariff Barriers.

-How to submit your complaints online via The Department of Commerce’s Office of Trade Agreements Negotiations and Compliance (TANC).

-The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

-How to protect your patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets overseas.

-How to develop worldwide patent portfolios, global patenting strategies, monitoring and enforcing patent rights.

-Case studies.
