In keeping with the Chamber’s mission of “Connecting The Community With Commerce” this Calendar was created to allow member businesses and New Canaan based non-profits to promote their upcoming events to the public. The Community Calendar is a local resource for all residents and visitors and has quickly become one of the most visited pages on the site. Science in the News presents: The Molecular Macarena: Coordinating Your Body’s Movements
May 22 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pmFree
Yale Science Diplomats present the fifth and final Science in the News talk for this season: “The Molecular Macarena: Coordinating Your Body’s Movements.” You’ve probably heard of proteins and that you should consume them in your food. But did you know we need them to perform nearly every task in your body? Proteins are highly diverse molecules that shimmy, shake, and find partners for their tightly coordinated dance in biology. Join us to learn how missteps in this “molecular macarena” lead to common diseases of the brain, like Alzheimer’s and depression. Talks are open and free to the public!
Monday, May 20th @ 6:30PM – New Haven Free Public Library, Mitchell Branch (37 Harrison St, New Haven)
Wednesday, May 22nd @ 6:30PM – New Canaan Library (151 Main St, New Canaan)
Wednesday, May 29th @ 7:00PM – Guilford Free Library (67 Park St, Guilford)
Science in the News brings science to the general public in the form of an annual lecture series held at public libraries in the New Haven area. Graduate students and postdocs deliver talks on current topics in science, ranging from the microbiome to the feasibility of a real-life Jurassic Park. Reading materials and a vibrant Q&A session further engage attendees in discussion. Our goal is to make science fun and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. We want to provide people with a better understanding of the science underpinning many of the complex issues we hear about in the news every day.
