In keeping with the Chamber’s mission of “Connecting The Community With Commerce” this Calendar was created to allow member businesses and New Canaan based non-profits to promote their upcoming events to the public. The Community Calendar is a local resource for all residents and visitors and has quickly become one of the most visited pages on the site. The New Canaan Preservation Alliance will be hosting a PUBLIC FORUM on Thursday, October 18th at 6:30 PM and Friday, October 19th at 11:00 AM at the New Canaan Historical Society.
Come learn more about the Mead Park Brick Barn and why the NCPA strongly supports its restoration and repurposing! We’ll be discussing the following:
This century old building was built by the Standard Oil Company in 1911.
It was added to the State Register of Historic Places in Connecticut by the Historic Preservation Council.
It is one of only 45 industrial buildings registered. Find out why that’s important.
The compelling cost benefits to the Town of New Canaan and all New Canaan taxpayers.
The NCPA has said they will take over the costs of restoring and maintaining the Mead Park Brick Barn. That’s an immediate saving of the $65,000 plus for demolition.
Establishing a “pilot” project for funding for New Canaan and begin a relationship for our other Town owned buildings as well.
This building has an 800 square foot footprint.
It’s a relatively small, doable first effort.
Restoration is the superior alternative to Demolition.
It will take 3 large dumpsters to remove the toxic waste from the demolition site, never mind the soil remediation that may be required. It also means a town that needs the dollars will allow those dumpsters to be unloaded there.
Restoration will result in a small easily liftable box of toxic waste to be disposed of.
It is time to put the Mead Park Brick Barn back to work for our Town and our community’s character.
