In keeping with the Chamber’s mission of “Connecting The Community With Commerce” this Calendar was created to allow member businesses and New Canaan based non-profits to promote their upcoming events to the public. The Community Calendar is a local resource for all residents and visitors and has quickly become one of the most visited pages on the site. New Canaan Library’s Children’s Room welcomes award-winning author Nora Raleigh Baskin, who will speak about her latest book, Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story. This thoughtful and sensitive portrayal of the impact of the tragic 9/11 events offers an explanation of a difficult subject to young people. Ms. Baskin will speak at the Library on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Curtis Gallery. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of Elm Street Books.
This special event is an extension of librarian Cathy Townsend’s monthly meetings of Young Critics and Pizza and Pages book groups, and will feature the traditional pizza dinner with refreshments for the children. The age group intended for the talk is 4 – 7th graders; please register to attend, online at newcanaanlibrary.org, or by phone 203-594-5002 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nine, Ten approaches the subject of 9/11 by looking at the days leading up to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and how that day impacted the lives of four middle school children from vastly different backgrounds. Baskin successfully weaves together their stories into an unforgettable novel about what started out as a perfect September day—and became the day our world changed forever.
