New Canaan Library presents Screening of Documentary A Plastic Ocean

January 19, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join other environmentally concerned individuals as New Canaan Library hosts a film screening of the documentary, A Plastic Ocean. This eye-opening and award winning film addresses the devastating impact of trash in our eco systems, and in particular, plastic in our oceans. The film is being released globally on Thursday, January 19 as part of an unofficial “Plastic Oceans Day” a worldwide screening campaign. The showing will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room.

According to the global organization Plastic Oceans every year we produce more than 300 million tons of plastic, half of which is designed for single use, and each year around 8 million tons of it ends up in our oceans. Plastic Oceans is working to change the way we deal with plastic waste by challenging the world’s collective perception that this indestructible substance can be treated as ‘disposable’. This thought-provoking documentary will lend insight into this important topic.

Plastic Oceans is a global network of independent not-for-profits and charitable organizations, united in their aims to change the world’s attitude towards plastic within a generation. There are
currently four Plastic Oceans Foundation entities: United States, Canada, Hong Kong and United Kingdom serving both the ocean and the public.
