New Canaan Library, in Collaboration with Voices Center for Resilience, Honors the Memory of 9/11 with the Exhibition “20 Years Later: New Canaan Remembers and Reflects”

As the 20th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001 approaches, New Canaan Library invites the community to visit the Curtis Gallery, where one can reflect upon the events through a multi-media exhibition and special programming. The initiative is presented with the help and guidance of the New Canaan based organization, Voices Center for Resilience, formerly Voices of September 11.
Beginning August 16th, the Library welcomes visitors to view “September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World.” Told across 14 posters, this impactful exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s permanent collection. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring 9/11, documenting its impact, and examining its continuing significance.
The exhibition explores the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and communities at the local, national, and international levels, and encourages critical thinking about the legacies of 9/11. Supporting resources for the exhibit, such as collaborative art projects to be done at home, will be available. The exhibition was developed by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and has been made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Visitors to the Curtis Gallery will also be able to view the “9/11 Living Memorial Project,” an online visual tribute created by Voices Center for Resilience to commemorate the lives and preserve the stories of 9/11, as well as artwork relating to 9/11 that is on loan from the organization. A journal will also be available to write or sketch one’s thoughts and recollections of 9/11. The exhibition will be available to view through Friday, September 17, 2021.
As part of the larger initiative, Mary Fetchet, Founding Director of Voices Center for Resilience, will present the program “A 20-year Journey: From 9/11 to Today” via live videoconference on Tuesday, September 7, at 6 PM EST. Ms. Fetchet, a New Canaan resident for 33 years and mother of Brad Fetchet, who died in the September 11 attacks, will discuss her journey over the past 20 years.
