New Canaan Library and Staying Put Present Necessary Conversations: The Rising Cost of Living Longer

January 16, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan present a winter 2019 series of Necessary Conversations, a collaborative effort that addresses issues related to adult children and their aging parents. The first of three lectures, The Rising Cost of Living Longer, will be presented on Wednesday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

It’s natural to wish to live a long life, but the practicalities of supporting a long life remain. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in 2013 older Americans paid $59 billion out-of-pocket for services and supports related to aging. The Rising Cost of Living Longer will address this issue with a panel providing information on the services and costs related to meeting health and personal needs as we age.

Members of the panel, speaking on their areas of expertise, are: Kathy Collins, Director, Member Resources, Staying Put in New Canaan – Adapting to the Changing Needs of Aging; Lisa Alhabal, Choices Counselor, SWCT Area Agency on Aging – Medicare, Medicaid and VA Benefits; and Lenore Consiglio, Vice President, Admissions, Waveny LifeCare Network – Service options and costs.
