Musical Performance and Talk, The Anthropology of Folk Music, Highlights Library’s One Book New Canaan read of Euphoria

March 9, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

New Canaan Library’s town wide read of Lily King’s Euphoria opens the door to exploring related themes through presentations and interactive programs. The importance of music to all cultures figures heavily as a theme in this award winning book, and is explored by the musical group Atwater-Donnelly Duo on Thursday, March 9 with their talk and performance, The Anthropology of Folk Music. The event will take place in the Adrian Lamb Room at 6:30 p.m.; please register online at newcanaanlibary.org
Songs, drumbeats, and the lilting of flutes are used as literary references in Euphoria to send messages throughout the novel. Indeed, music is a universal social behavior used for communication, celebration, mourning, and worship, since time began. Learn how the universally human need to create and hear music is expressed across cultures, and within our own, in this American folk music concert presented by Atwater-Donnelly.
