SUMMARY:Learning with Nature | Monarch Migration
DESCRIPTION:Join Grace Farms Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly and experts from Kansas State University for a hands-on field study to safely record\, tag\, and release monarch butterflies throughout Grace Farms 80 acres of landscape.\n\nLearn how to net\, tag\, and record Monarchs in a way that supports the best outcome for healthy butterflies to survive migration\, winter\, the flight north in late spring\, and successful reproduction in late summer. This workshop ends with our a cup of our butterfly pea flower tea and a culinary treat in the Commons.\n\nOver the past few decades\, monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90%. As a participant of the Kansas State University’s Monarch Watch program\, Grace Farms has been working to increase the Monarch habitat and this summer we will be participating in the Monarch Watch tagging program.\n\nRecommended for ages 12 and up. Due to uneven terrain for the field portion of the workshop\, strollers\, walkers and wheelchairs are not recommended.

SUMMARY:Filling in the Blanks Unite to Fight 5K
DESCRIPTION:Join Filling in the Blanks on August 23\, 2026\, at the Eighth Annual Unite to Fight 5K. The race will take place at Mill River Park located in Stamford\, CT. Enjoy a 5k race and kids fun run with food\, prizes and t-shirts\, all while benefitting Filling in the Blanks and their core programs. \nIn Fairfield County\, more than 33\,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday\, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Founded in 2013\, Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills in those weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag filled with healthy\, easy-to-prepare food for the weekend.  When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed\, children experience increased academic achievement in school and greater opportunities for success in their lives. FITB continuously serves 10\,000+ kids at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield\, Westchester\, and Putnam counties. FITB has also established four in-school pantries and in 2023 launched the Fresh Food On The Move mobile pantry that provides families with fresh produce\, veggies\, proteins and other staples\, as well as health and wellness services.

Inspired by the plans for a flowering lawn in the Plaza\, children will use a mix of art materials to create their own vibrant landscape collage. After learning about the different flowers that will bloom at Grace Farms in the years ahead\, participants are invited to dream up their own flower-filled design and turn it into a beautiful\, one-of-a-kind artwork.\n\nOpen Arts Studio is a site-specific creative exploration for younger audiences to engage in open-ended inquiry and reflect on the building\, its shapes and designs\, and its ideas. This ongoing series\, offered weekly\, is led by Grace Farms Arts Educator Nancy Jameson. Recommended for ages 4-11 with adult caregivers.
