The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) announces its 20th annual MONOTHON fundraising event with artist printing sessions scheduled the week of Sunday, October 14, 2018 through Sunday, October 21, 2018 at CCP’s studios in Mathews Park, Norwalk culminating in a silent and live Auction and Party Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan’s Waveny Park from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. This two-part event, which is CCP’s annual fundraiser, is a unique opportunity for artists, collectors, and community members to make, see, and purchase art while supporting the mission of this cultural treasure in Norwalk, CT.
The heart of MONOTHON is Print Week – a marathon of printmaking sessions, in which artists create monotypes, collaborating with Master Printers in intensive, 5-hour periods. A monotype is made by drawing or painting with ink or paint directly onto a printing plate, then placing paper over the surface and passing it through a press to produce a one-of-a-kind work of art. Seasoned artists who are adept at printmaking can find this intensive week inspiring, while for others it is an ideal occasion to give printmaking a try. Non-artists, too, have found making monotypes to be a fun way to get a hands-on learning experience. Over the past few years, local politicians such as Congressman Jim Himes and Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling have had great success with their artistic experiments! At the end of each session, one print is selected to be auctioned at the Auction and Party. This year’s Print Week will take place between Sunday, October 14th and Saturday, October 20th. Sunday, October 21st is reserved for our Youth MONOTHON, for students ages 11-18, and will be held from 10 AM – 3 PM. Visit the website contemprints.org or call the Center at 203.899.7999 to register for a session or for more information. Early bird prices for sessions are available until August 31st.
MONOTHON has been an annual tradition of camaraderie and creativity since CCP Founder, Grace Shanley, invited Ron Pokrasso, an artist/printmaker located in Santa Fe, to recreate MONOTHON in Norwalk twenty years ago. Artists look forward to participating every year. Preparations are underway to make the 20th anniversary a very special celebration!
