The Community Calendar is a local resource for all residents and visitors and has quickly become one of the most visited pages on the site. Historically, our country’s presidents have often been either the subject or cause of much drama and intrigue. That fact leads to the creation of memorable films and television shows. Join New Canaan Library in welcoming film historian and author Max Alvarez, offering a powerful journey though 84 years of Hollywood films and TV shows about U.S. presidents. Alvarez will speak on Tuesday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.
Film historian, author, and speaker Max Alvarez has been examining film and society through a microscope for decades. His talk will feature discussions of such political favorites as House of Cards, VEEP, The American President and Seven Days in May.
Alvarez’s cinema talks are rich in historical and cultural information and bolstered with humor and witty anecdotes about motion pictures and their colorful creators. He is author of numerous published articles and has presented lectures at prestigious academic institutions and libraries including Columbia University School of the Arts and New York University. He has curated numerous exhibitions including one at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York and planned events and series at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Alvarez is the author of The Crime Films of Anthony Mann (University Press of Mississippi, 2013).
