Sunday, November 10, 1 – 3pm
Improvisational Music and Dance Therapy Program
Karen Nisenson, Founder/Clinical Director, and Jennifer Ellyson, Dance Therapist at Arts for Healing, New Canaan, will engage audience volunteers in improvisational piano playing and dance movement to expand self-awareness, self-expression and connection with others. Karen (MM, Piano Performance, Julliard; MA, Music Therapy, NYU) and Jennifer (MA, Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling, Columbia College, Chicago) will demonstrate that self-expression is inherent in everyone and the core self emerges through creativity. No experience with music or dance is required to find your inner voice through the arts!

Panel Discussion “The Art of Healing through the Arts”
Following their improvisational program, Karen and Jennifer will join Ellen Brezovsky, Executive Director, New Canaan CARES, and Kathleen (Katie) Wieting, Art Therapist, Silver Hill Hospital, for a panel discussion about the healing power of art. Ellen (MS, Social Work, Columbia) leads one of New Canaan’s foremost social service agencies and provides addiction prevention education for families. Katie (ATR-BC, LCAT) oversees art therapy at Silver Hill Hospital for the Adolescent Transitional Living Program, and collaborates with Silvermine in art classes to help teens find their inner artist. The panelists will share their expertise and respond to questions.
