Conflict Resolution Discussed in “The Shifting Nature of War & Peace,” Presented at New Canaan by Shamil Idriss, CEO of Search for Common Ground

Though global conflict has always existed, the nature of conflict today is changing. What does that mean for global stability? Join Shamil Idriss, CEO of the peace-building organization Search for Common Ground and a nominee for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, for an in-depth discussion on the shifting nature of war and peace in the 21st century. Among the topics to be addressed by Idriss are: the changing nature of conflict and the impact on global stability, lessons that can be drawn from front line conflict resolution and peace building, and how these lessons can be applied to achieve sustainable peace and foster the cooperation needed to tackle our biggest challenges in the 21st century.
Shamil Idriss is the Chief Executive Officer of Search for Common Ground. In his current capacity as CEO, and in his previous capacities as President, Chief Operating Officer, and Burundi Country Director, Idriss has led Search’s efforts to end violent conflict in more than 35 countries globally, including some of the most devastating conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa.
Among his many accomplishments, Idriss was appointed in 2005 by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Kofi Annan as Deputy Director of the UN Alliance of Civilizations. In this role, he supported high-level political and religious leaders in developing policy recommendations and action plans to improve cross-cultural relations between Western and Muslim-majority countries, before, during, and after the Arab Spring revolutions.
