Big Bacteria, Big Pharma, Big Problems: What You Should Know About Antibiotics

April 8, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Antibiotics are vital and a first line defense drug for many heath issues – but in recent years physicians and patients have also become aware of the dangers of overprescribing. Join Yale Science Diplomats when they visit New Canaan Library for a broad discussion on the many aspects of antibiotics. The event takes place on Saturday, April 8 at 3 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Antibiotics are a big part of our lives, but it’s hard to know what they are and how they really affect us. How do they work, and what parts do they play in medicine, agriculture, and history? Three scientists will lay out the real roles of antibiotics, including prescriptions and drug resistance, public health issues, and what big pharmaceuticals and academia are trying to do with them. Come join us for an insightful evening, no health insurance necessary!

Yale Science Diplomats is a graduate student group dedicated to science policy and science communication. The diplomats bring science to the public in exciting and accessible ways through a variety of outreach initiatives such as Science in the News, Science Shorts,

and Science @ Bar. In doing so, they also train scientists on effective communication skills and encourage active participation and involvement in science policy and the political process.
