Town Events

In keeping with the Chamber’s mission of “Connecting The Community With Commerce” this Calendar was created to allow member businesses and New Canaan based non-profits to promote their upcoming events to the public. The Community Calendar is a local resource for all residents and visitors and has quickly become one of the most visited pages on the site. Events can be submitted via the link below and will be reviewed and posted within 24-48 hours.

Become A Mentor And Change A Child’s Life

January 11 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Please join us for coffee and learn how you can get involved in the Norwalk Mentor Program, a program of the Human Services Council. Mentors are matched with a student in one of the 19 Norwalk Public Schools. They then meet with their mentee for one hour each week at school. They play games, read together, do crafts or another activity or just talk. It makes a huge difference to young people – just to have a caring, supportive adult in their lives – one who is not a family member or a teacher. Not only do students receive benefits from the program, but mentors do as well. National studies show that mentors return to work happier, have a fresh perspective on life and feel better about themselves.

If you believe in the value of a mentor, but feel like you don’t have time to meet a student each week, the Norwalk Mentor Program established HEROES (Helping Enrich Relationships of Every Student). This allows someone to sponsor a mentor/mentee match and be involved in a different way.

If you would like to attend the event or for more information, please contact Julie Lewis at jlewis@hscct.org or 203-849-1111 x3002.
