“Recycling Food Scraps in New Canaan” Presented via Webinar from New Canaan Library, in Partnership with Planet New Canaan and the Town of New Canaan

December 10, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Food that gets thrown away does not actually go away; it comes back to each town – and the global community – as a financial expense and in the form of public health concerns and environmental liabilities.
In partnership with Planet New Canaan and the Town of New Canaan, the Library presents, “Recycling Food Scraps in New Canaan,” a panel discussion that demonstrates how New Canaan is breaking this cycle through the Food Scrap Recycling program at the town’s transfer station. The discussion will be presented via live webinar on Thursday, December 10 at 7 PM. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org. Zoom sign in information will be provided upon registration.
The food we dispose of not only wastes space and resources, but it also pollutes soil and ground water and accelerates climate change by producing methane, a greenhouse gas that traps heat and contributes to global warming. There are better, and healthier, ways of dealing with food scraps. Join the webinar to hear how this new program turns costly, dangerous trash into nutrient-rich compost that feeds the soil and cuts municipal spending to boot. Speakers include Alice Ely, Master Gardener & Composter at Wakeman Farm in Westport, Nick Skeadas of Curbside Compost, and Tiger Mann, Director of Public Works, Town of New Canaan.
