Living Art Awards Benefit

May 21, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 11:00 pm

$500

On May 21st, the Silvermine Arts Center will celebrate its first annual Living Art Award with an evening benefit at Grace Farms. New Yorker cartoonist and author Roz Chast will accept the inaugural Living Art Award. Chast’s body of work established her as one of our greatest artistic chroniclers of the anxieties, superstitions, insecurities and surreal imaginings of modern life, and her recent book, Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?, a National Book Award Finalist, was the first graphic novel ever to win the National Book Critics Circle Award for memoir.

Lifetime Guild members Constance Kiermaier and Liana Moonie will be honored alongside Chast for transcendent, award-winning, multi-media work throughout their life-long careers as artists. The Living Art celebration applauds three creative individuals who exemplify “living art”–engaging and enriching others as they deepen our understanding and enjoyment of the arts.

The Silvermine Arts Center is grateful to Grace Farms Foundation and its space grant program for making it possible for the Silvermine community to inaugurate its Living Art Award at the new River building, designed by the Japanese architecture studio, SANAA, whose work is currently on exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. Guests will enjoy fine dining by Marcia Selden (Moffly Best-of-the-Gold-Coast caterer) and dance to the music of Alex Donner Entertainment, which has been called “the best entertainment provider in the East, if not the country” by the New York Times. To kick off the celebration of Living Art, members of the artist faculty will be creating paintings on site that will be available at silent auction. In addition, a seasoned Ikebana artist will demonstrate the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging. The event will raise funds for Silvermine’s premiere art school, outreach education, and gallery exhibitions that connect Silvermine to the regional and national pulse of the art world.
