Science in the News: From Micro to Macro

March 25, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Yale Science Diplomats present the second of five Science in the News talks this spring: “From Micro to Macro: Small Molecules with Big Effects.” Every day we encounter objects whose shapes are critical for their function, which is why you’ve probably never tried to eat soup with a fork! In this talk, we will describe how shape is just as critical to function at the molecular level where changes in shape can have dramatic consequences ranging from disease to agricultural productivity. Talks are open and free to the public!

Wednesday, March 20th @ 6:30PM – New Canaan Library (151 Main St, New Canaan)
Monday, March 25th @ 6:30PM – New Haven Free Public Library, Mitchell Branch (37 Harrison St, New Haven)
Wednesday, March 27th @ 7:00PM – Guilford Free Library (67 Park St, Guilford)

Science in the News brings science to the general public in the form of an annual lecture series held at public libraries in the New Haven area. Graduate students and postdocs deliver talks on current topics in science, ranging from the microbiome to the feasibility of a real-life Jurassic Park. Reading materials and a vibrant Q&A session further engage attendees in discussion. Our goal is to make science fun and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. We want to provide people with a better understanding of the science underpinning many of the complex issues we hear about in the news every day.
