“Emerging Women,” by Nancy Moore, New Canaan Library’s Curtis Gallery

March 7, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

The many faces, strengths, and paths of women are expressed in colorful, intricate and dreamlike beauty by artist Nancy Moore. “Emerging Women” opens at New Canaan Library’s Curtis Gallery on Thursday, March 7 and runs through Sunday, April 21. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 7 from 6 – 8 p.m.; a Q & A with the artist will begin at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Nancy Moore is an artist that defies convention, as do her subjects. Her women exude confidence, skill, power and substance; they are equal to life and soar. Using mixed media – watercolor, gouache, metallic paint, colored pencil, wax crayon, and graphite – Moore taps into current social issues and trends, embracing increasingly prevalent realities and bringing social awareness to new heights and understanding. The viewer is not only transfixed by the striking quality of her art, but walks away enlightened and emboldened.

“Over the past seven years, I’ve been focusing my artistic practice on the concept of transformation and evolution, playing with themes of shape-shifting, creation myth, and gender identity,” says Moore. “I’m creating an ongoing Unconventional Women Series, depicting women who are unconventionally beautiful and who are not engaged in conventional activity.”
